We certainly have not tried all the dishes offered by this restaurant, but the ones we had without exception were very good to excellent. Definite winners are the risottos, both in the traditional saffron, Milanese version as well as the more innovative ones. Not the cheapest offering on the block, this place is a good choice for intimate gatherings where food, ambiance and friendliness (as opposed to scene and people watching) are the point. As an Italian skeptical of Italian restaurants, this one won me over.

Can't believe this place is still open. Look at the reviews - horrible, expensive and rude service. Are people in Miami crazy? I am sure the good reviews came from friends of the owners. The arrogance is shown over and over by the lack of response to the criticism of poor service, overpriced bad food. We don't mind paying for good food here in Miami but please don't insult us.

I'm a New Yorker with a place across the street in Sunset Harbour. We were down this weekend and gave Petit a try for lunch. We are pleased with how Sunset Harbour has become a unique culinary destination The place is very nice and would be a welcome addition to the neighborhood Unfortunately the food in a word is BORING. There is nothing that stands out. I had the quinoa and the linguine. My wife or daughters cook better at home in the kitchen. My wife was displeased with her food as well. Food taste and quality is way below average Petit--you need a real chef. Especially with the great restaurants now in walking distance. Won't be back until we hear they've upped the food. I don't care how quaint the place looks. It always starts with food.

We have had at least 6 wonderful meals at Petit since this gem has opened across the street from us, and have found that the food and service has matched the beautiful ambiance. The owners, in our experience, have been gracious (recognizing us as neighbors and bringing us complimentary drinks and dessert on the last couple of occasions) and we have brought a number of friends who have shared in our delight. My personal favorites are the eggplant millefeuille and the spaghetti with lobster ragout. I really hope that this gem will thrive because I believe that it is a great addition to the neighborhood.

Beautiful restaurant. If only I could say the same about the food...

Have come here for both lunch and dinner and have both been fabulous. The ambience is really nice. It definitely makes you feel like you have left South Beach. The food is great. The portions are very generous and the staff is very attentive. At night there are candles everywhere that makes it very romantic. I honestly love coming here. Definitely my go-to when in the Sunset Harbour area.

Had high expectations for a place in the sunset Harbour area filled with other great restaurants. This place was a let down. The food is just bland. The Mediterranean Seabass was the best thing we ordered. Oddly enough it was a very thin layer of fish glued to my plate. The burrata was fine but not the best I've ever had. The tuna and salmon tartar apps were just very bland . We wanted to add salt to it but there was no salt on the table. The service was okay. It wasn't bad but they didn't seem particularly attentive. We sat inside, it's a nice vibe - the outside patio looked cute. If you're looking for Italian In this area I would recommend Sardinia.

I live in the neighborhood. So look forward to having Petit Bistro open. The decor is pretty and cute. The backyard garden is a place I would like to hang out with friends. It has a nice ambiance. However, the foods is just average. I had a fish dish with cherry tomatoes and asparagus. It did not have much taste to it. If the owner is reading this message, please listen to the reviews - your food is bland. Please focus on "FRESH AND FLAVOR". We ( neighbors and friends) want you to stay open.

AVOID at all costs. This restaurant is an absolute joke for Italian standards. Rude owners, especially Luca Guelfi who has no idea about the very basic concept of customer service. If you want atmosphere, go for a walk to the other side of the street and look at a view of Sunset Harbor, at least there you won't be roped into paying Cipriani like prices for bland, uninspired food that compares to Olive Garden.

i would love to give them more stars.. but being in the restaurant business in miami beach for over 10 years, i have to say it is one of the worst experience i've had. no greeter, no management, food is way below average. i beg you to give me this place (amazing outdoor courtyard) to turn it around.. wake up guys!

Bravo to the people behind Petit Miami Beach for creating such a wonderful dining atmosphere - incredible attention to detail from the beautiful furnishings and decoration to the warm welcome we received as guests. A great spot for a romantic evening on the lovely terrace - we felt like we had been transported to Italy. The food was excellent - we will be back~!

We have been few times to this restaurant and I love everything about it. The food was very good, fresh and flavorful. I love the atmosphere and the patio, it reminds of Europe a lot. People who wrote that this place is a joke are plain mean. This place is new so give it a chance and remember: there are real people behind any business just like everybody else.

Never too good to fail. Lots of hospitality 101 fails here. Cute ambiance and great tasting food, but you have to wait a looong time to get attention and the food. Waiter did not come over for the first 15/20 mins when we arrived. When we spotted the owner (or general manager) and said excuse me, to ask for our waiter, he gave us the "wait a minute" one-finger gesture -- which was really surprising bc the restaurant had 3 other small tables of 2-4 ppl each, and we were a party of 12. When the waitress finally came, she brought one bottle of water for a table of 12. We asked for tap and were still charge. There were No plates to accompany the bread/olive oil; and after asking for plates it took about 10+ mins to get them. They brought out the wrong bottle of wine; one of the main dishes was missing the main ingredient - crushed pepper and 4 out of the 12 entrees came 20 minutes after everyone else was done. There is a major language barrier but it was still really unacceptable at how low the quality of service was for the price you're paying per dish. We were disappointed, bc we love and prefer to support local small businesses in the neighborhood - but this one needs work. UPDATE: after all of the above, the next morning we see that our credit card was charged the full bill amount of $500, when we signed off on $96.00. O_o !!!

I always walk right by it but just yesterday we finally decided to try it. The place is so cute. Great terrace. Service was impecable. The waiters were attentive. and food was delish! Im not a fan of apple pie but the tarte for dessert is a must. Ill be back. This place seems like it would be great to have a large gathering in their terrace too.

100% Effort in decor and ambiance. That's all... Tried it for the first time and it just wasn't the right timing for both sides. Everything I ordered they were out and when I decided on the Eggs Benedict (at 5PM) because lack of better choices and they served them with no sauce! The chef forgot to mention that they were ALSO out of Hollandaise sauce. My friend ordered an Artichoke salad! The only good thing about this was the way it was served! Very pretty... No doubt this very lovely and cute place has charm and good food to compliment the entire experience. Just wasn't our day... The waiter was fantastic he understood the circumstances and allowed us to walk away forever....

100% Italian place ..!! Vintage and nice decoration .. The patio is so nice!!! The pasta is homemade and very taste !! The seabass and octupus salad are awesomee Suggested for a date or for share time with friends Love petit absolutely my favorite one on sunset harbor

I simply can't understand where all of these negative reviews are coming from. My boyfriend and I went tonight for Valentine's Day and had a great experience. Food was delicious (pasta cooked to perfection) and service was wonderful. It was a busy night and we were attended to promptly in all aspects: seating, ordering and receiving food. I don't know where most of these negative reviews are stemming from but I'm hoping that it's because of personal experience rather than generalized thought. *Great decor and patio; a definite date night spot

Quaint decor. Beautiful outdoor garden! Great service - Michael was awesome - gave great recommendations for food & wine! Started with the Prosciutto & Burrata appetizer -a must! Delish mushroom risotto with truffle oil!!! Scrumptious!! Luca later came by our table to make sure everything was fine. Great, great time! Delicious food and wonderful service coupled with great atmosphere! Will be back for sure!

I have to say that I am very disappointed in the reviews for this place. I know during their opening they did struggle a little, but oh did they fix it all! Not only does the restaurant have amazing ambiance, especially outside, but the food is great! Our waitress whose name is escaping my kind at the moment was amazing. The maître d checked on us three times during our dinner and the staff could not have been more attentive. I was so pleasantly surprised based on the reviews. As for food- I knew it would be great after we received our bread- holy cow!!! Delicious. We started with the burrata and prosciutto which was amazing. There were baby heirloom tomatoes on the side and it was just to die for! We tried the shrimp curry with black rice and oh my gosh I almost does and went to heaven! The curry was so tasty and the shrimp delicious. Now, I hate eggplant, but we felt the need to order the eggplant Parmesan and I have to say this is a reason to return to Petit time and time again- INSANE!!! I have never had eggplant in my 23 years that I have enjoyed and this was something I have been salivating over for five days after!! The only thing on the menu that I tried that needs a little improvement is the Ahi Tuna Tartare- it just needs to be served colder and it would have been perfect. I highly recommend this spot- it is so dang cute and the food is delicious. They definitely stepped up their game and this is a new favorite for me. The wait staff is great and I can not wait to go back! Thank you Petit for exceeding my expectations!

It's always a bit curious to encounter an Italian restaurant that does a beautiful job with design while also delivering a poor, overpriced food & service experience at the same time. Perhaps designed with unsuspecting tourists in their targets, Petit Miami Beach was the poorest experience of all the restaurants I've dined at in our new, great Sunset Harbor neighborhood. I sincerely hope what passes for Italian food here is not a future trend. Given all of the nice options just paces away in this neighborhood, it is actually a waste of money to choose Petit, at least if you expect a nice meal and good service. Broad strokes of our bad night here: high prices, poor service, and bland, tasteless dishes that seem incompetently constructed by an apparently amateur chef. A mixed salad arrived in a big bowl dry, without dressing; my tasteless $28 lobster pasta had the tiniest of lobster chunks in it, with limp noodles, too. Other dishes ordered by our small party were bland and overcooked. Biggest impression the next morning: our $16 glasses of wine left both of us with a headache. Petit Miami Beach is an attractive looking place with a great patio, overpriced, bland and poor food, and service that would not meet the muster of a true Italian host. I view it as a ripoff and perhaps a tourist trap, too. Whether you are local or visiting Miami, I strongly suggest avoiding Petit and walking a few paces down the block to any nearby alternatives. (For Italian, nearby Sardinia has superb food and service at a similar price, and all of the Pubbelly group restaurants are far superior, too.)

horrible service, long wait just to be acknowledged and there was nobody inside!!! food mediocre by italian standards, basically a joke if you know italy and real italian food, if you like olive garden , you may like it : ) and .... if you like to wait 1 + hr for pasta , go ahead.... i will go elsewhere! fate schifo!!! you suck!!!

A friend suggested we try Petit. They had walked by and thought it looked appealing. That is the only appealing aspect I found apparent here. Wine by the glass was very skimpy, bread was grocery store quality , like other reviews said the waitress was puzzled when we asked for bread plates. The mixed salad. (Not on the menu ) came without any dressing - we had to ask for oil and vinegar. The crowning low point were the pastas we ordered. Spaghetti with lobster had a few microscopic pieces of lobster , and was overall- tasteless . The carbonara was simply bad. The small portion size was a blessing in disguise. I couldn't identify the flavor - other than too much black pepper. The Pancetta was not like any I'd tasted Both pastas were not al dente simply undercooked , flavorless and starchy. We decided to skip dessert Too many good restaurants in south beach to go back to petit

The ambiance was great. Very romantic and beautiful venue. If only the food was as tasty. Not bad, just under-seasoned and bland.

the only good thing about this restaurant is the patio. We wait 1 hour for the food, and we order pasta. The restaurant was almost empty, only 2 tables. When the food arrived the gnocchi was saggy, and it has 8 pieces of gnocchi, and the other plates where cold. We told the server/manager and his answer was "you wait for 20 minutes, not 1 hour". At the end he didn't even try to make it better, he charged for all. And we left very disappointed. We ended eating at barceloneta around the corner.

Horrible!!!! I ordered my salmon well done and it wad undercooked and cold, my boyfriend ordered a plain pasta without garlic because he is allergic and we had to send it back it was Full of garlic. The service was really bad, actually no service. And one more thing they RECYCLED the bread. Too expensive to eat a recycled bread.

Petit is a perfectly acceptable Italian option when you're on Purdy and looking for a quiet place to have an decent meal. They've got a nice lunch special ($20 for appetizer, entree, and dessert) and the food is made fresh to order. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the lentil soup was but was a bit disappointed with the turkey Milanese (pounded too flat and was pretty dry).

I love this place. Authentic Italian modeled off their Milan Resteraunt. Back courtyard area is a wonderful surprise also. Professional New York style service and many food optional a for all pallets.

Love this little neighborhood restaurant. Decor is adorable. Outside patio at night, very rare for Miami space. Great date night if it's cool enough. They would benefit for fans or misters during summer time. Have done brunch and dinner here. Had scrambled eggs for brunch. Reasonably priced for Miami. The best plate we had was during our dinner visit. The angus steak. We had it cooked medium. Excellent! Rivals a good steak from red or prime. Tender and delicious served over a plate of grilled vegetables. We split that an appetizer and a bottle of wine and the bill was 100 dollars. We had the prosciutto appetizer. Amazing as well. Highly recommend this hidden little gem.

If people have given this place a poor review I would definitely advise them to give it a second chance! The food is delicious and the ambiance is great, one of the cutest restaurants I've been to. I had the special, risotto with porcini mushrooms and seared scallops (which were DELICIOUS), also tried the burratta and prosciutto appetizer which is a definite must. Loved sitting outside in the candlelight with twinkle lights in the trees, it's not too loud like most south beach restaurants so you can enjoy conversation.. Was worried that we might have to move inside when it started raining but the have a huge awning that they extended so we stayed dry! Great service and great food! I'll definitely be back

As resident of Miami for the last 14 years and working as private chef for 15 years I can said that when I go out to eat its to relax and eat well ! Well that was not the case yesterday when I ate in your restaurant! I know that working in kitchen is not easy and sometime you have a bad day and this reflect on the food you served ! But sorry Guy the food was just poor. You cannot pretend to be an italian french uspcale bistro when you serve a very pricy notaste food ! I had the porcini potatoe terrine that came as potato gratin with one piece of muhsroom and 5 small potato it was justawful and cost $18 ! I try the special White asparagus risotto $24 with pancetta well Inside the risotto was probably one shredded asparagus that all! When I spoke to the server to tell him that the risotto should have Parmesan he told me that in Italy we do not served parmesan in rosotto! For seafood risotto I will understand but if you see the history of The risotto I am sorry to tell you that but parmesan is an ingredient that you found thru century! You cannot charged your client so much money to eat in restaurant style bistro and serve this quality of food and service wise your waiter should be more welcoming ! I love the decor and I want you to be successful on your journey but I'am just tired to get rip off when I go out now in Miami . I think you should do something about it before its too late! Everybody desserve a second chance so I hope next time I will come you will make change on your attiude and food!

My husband and I fell into this Wonderful Jewel of a restaurant as we were walking down Purdy Ave. It was the charming, romantic décor was what caught our eye. As we entered Petit, we were greeted by a very warm and friendly Maitre'd. We were seated in this beautiful dim lit dining room with stunning fresh roses on every table. Our waitress was a darling Italian young woman who was very knowledgeable with the menu. Both my husband and I truly enjoyed our meal. I started with the most delicious salmon tartare followed by a very good pasta dish. My husband raved about his salmon seasoned in teriyaki sauce. We finished with a fabulous tart tartine. This new restaurant is a real find. My suggestion is to run not walk before everyone else finds out about it. It was overall a Great experience !!

Food is mediocre and expensive for what you get, ambiance is adorable. Probably won't go back...sticking to Italian I know is great just down the street. Sorry Petit!

  • Francis S.

The service and the ambience was acceptable, and possible of greatness. However, I have never had such a boring, bland meal for such a high premium. The potato and porcini "terrine" appetizer was a small gratin with very few pieces of porcini and some five slices of potatoes with non-descript cheese for $18. I am not joking, it was beyond mediocre and very expensive. Needless to say, my entree was as disappointing: shrimp curry with black rice and not enough sauce for either... leaving me eating unseasoned rice after my 5 pieces of simple shrimp were done. It is a real shame given that the space is great. It is not worth going, and I'd recommend anyone to wait for the next restaurant, hopefully better, to fill this commercial space on Purdy Avenue.

Food was just horrible. ..services a joke!!!!will never go back...i ordered the shrimps it was blend rice oasty...my husband had the chicken that was just steam with no spice. ...seriously don't waist your time!!!

The restaurant is beautiful. However, the food does not impress. I don't mind paying $25 - $30 for an entree, but this is not a place where you get what you paid for. Try it for the ambience, but go elsewhere for good food.

After reading the other reviews on petit, it doesn't seem my experience was unique. This restaurant is absolutely beautiful and I really hope that they can get their act together. As others noted, it was confusion to get a table. After sitting for 15 minutes, we finally received menus and were offered water. I had to ask for bread, when they brought it, they didn't give us plates. The table next to us asked for balsamic which the waiter was completely confused by. The bread tasted like what they give at communion. No one took our order for another 10 minutes, so finally the host did. 5 minutes after that, we were greeted by our server for the first time. We explained someone had already taken our order. We ordered a salad to share and two pasta entrees. They brought the salad and one pasta at the same time. When we finally got someones attention to ask about the second pasta, they said they thought the first pasta was an appetizer... We had the spinach salad which was very overdressed and the goat cheese 'fondue' wilted the leaves. The description said it came with asparagus but there was only one small piece. The carbonara pasta was fine but nothing special at all. The paccherie with eggplant was pretty bad. Both pastas were not homemade and the actual pasta is better from Publix. We weren't offered cheese or pepper with any of our dishes. Unfortunately terrible service and below average food won't bring us back.

I love this beautifully decorated and lit restaurant. Went with a girlfriend and had a great time the manager and staff was wonderful. The back patio is beautiful but still a little to warm to hang out on all night and drink wine. Perfect for Nov. The spinach and fondue goat cheese salad was yummy and the tuna with asparagus mash potatoes was fab. Very accommodating for my friend who is practically allergic to everything.

Went for dinner to celebrate a friends bday, place is nice and good service but the food was a disaster from beginning to end. We order a drink and they run out of Aperol after 2 glasses, fish over cooked, beef was more vegetables on the plate than meet. Sad experience hope they can figure it out specially because they are surrounded by many amazing places and we would love to see them succeed in the neighborhood

  • Natalie G.

Terrible! One star for ambience! The food was at best mediocre! I ordered the thinest most tasteless seabass cut like a carpaccio and stuck onto my plate. So bland ive had better airplane food! The special which was roasted lamb was also flavorless and overcooked...just dissapointing the place is very cute and has a beautiful garden but thats all there is! Im hesitant expirement with new resturants because i have dissapointing and expensive dining expiriences....wont be back ever! La locanda is much better on washington...regardless this place wont last it will close within a month or so.

Edit: on a friend's comment about how much Petit's service has changed, we went back. And I must say we were pleasantly surprised. The service was really good - the staff was attentive and seemed to genuinely care. I have changed my original review (below) from 1 star to 4. Keep it up Petit and I'll keep coming back. Here is my original 1 star review: My fiancé and I had an awful, terrible, no good experience at Petit. And it's a shame because we literally live right next door and love supporting local businesses. It all boils down to these guys being completely unaware of the two rules of business: Rule #1: Treat your customers well. Rule #2: Don't forget rule #1. We stopped in on a Saturday to sample Petit's dessert menu, a fairly low risk way to try out a new place. They were 80% full so we felt okay taking up a table. So far so good. But that's where it went downhill. We were walked to our table, which was left uncleaned from the previous guests - thanks for caring about the puddles of liquid in front is us, staff of Petit! Next we proceeded to wait 14 and a half minutes for someone to come over. Seriously Petit?! Nearly 15 minutes to come over and greet us? You're not even full. It's obvious you don't care about our future business. What other conclusion should we draw? 7 and a half minutes after ordering, we were delivered our tiramisu -which was not bad, by the way. But by that time it was already too late - the taste of disdain for Petit and everyone that we interacted with there was just too palpable. Adding to our awesome experience was witnessing the manager / owner in a yelling match with his staff next to our table. The icing on the cake was when the check was literally thrown down in front of me. Here is the interaction if it were expressed verbally: Petit: Slam! And thank you for your business! Me: FU! And thank you for your dessert! I'll end with this: WTH Petit? You couldn't have scripted a bigger disaster of an introduction to your business. For everyone else: there are so many great restaurants in Sunset Harbor - Icebox, Pubbelly, Sardinia, the list goes on. Life is too short to waste your time and money at a place like Petit. Fail!

Very cute establishment, with great ambiance and an awesome terrace. Food was just ok. Good food quality, but needed seasoning and punch. Service was horrible. Servers were permanently confused and often nowhere to be found. The wine by the glass list is nonexistent. Prices were reasonable considering your option in the area. Overall, could be an awesome place if they got the service right and somewhat improved the food.

beautiful court yard, so so food, terrible service. our cute waiter with tousled hair and italian accent forgot to put one order in. four were served and one wasn't. he kept saying the food was coming but it never did.. we cancelled the order and won't ever go back, which is a shame because it is within walking distance of our home.

Cute place.. Amazing ambiance... Decent food..but it lacks in flavor and variety... They need to focus on making the food more flavorful to make it worth going back...

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
